another first

I honestly feel really badly for all of those "oldest children" out there.  Everything Garrett does is always a "first" in our lives and I think he pays dearly for it.  I am on edge and anxious about all of his changes.  His 5th grade promotion ceremony was another perfect example.  I can't believe this little boy is going into Middle School next year!

The proud graduate with his proud Grandpa

We were glad to have Grandpa there to celebrate with us.

This is Garrett's favorite teacher at Wallin -- "Coach"  Honestly, I don't know his last name, they all just call him Coach.  What I do know is that I approached Coach at school one day shortly after we moved here to tell him how much Garrett liked him.  He knew Garrett by name and told me how much he liked Garrett.  Just before I took this picture he said "don't tell anyone, but he's my favorite"  I know Garrett isn't always on the winning team in PE so it does my heart good to know that this coach can see Garrett for who he is -- a great boy!

His last name is Stevenson. And he is AWESOME. I think he tries really hard to know all the kids well. I love watching him teach and I love how excited he got putting together the course for the fun run, how so many of our games for the Family Fun Festival were hand made by him, how all the wood worked (teachers' name plates, lost and found bin etc) were all made by him. Our Wallin family is blessed to have him. I'm glad he and Garrett were able to have a special relationship.

Garrett is growing up and doing well. It's not easy being first, but then it's not easy being second either. I can attest to that. It is however, great to have a teacher or coach who identifies with people and goes out of their way to make them feel good about themselves and others.
Hope Garrett has others like that in Middle School to help him on along the way.

It looks like you had a great time
with your family. I guess you know
that you are the stopping place
for everyone now, you have a POOL!
Just kidding, everyone would stop
even without the pool, you are
loved by all.

Love Iris
