Today started off great, I was up at 6 AM -- such an infrequent experience for me anymore -- but I really needed to get caught up on straps. I had most of the day planned to sew. I made Garrett a lunch because he had a big 4th grade field trip today. Philip and I got the boys out the door and I headed to sew. Then I got....THE CALL. It was one of Garrett's friends Mom's telling me she was saving me a seat on the bus for me. HUH? The bus? The teacher had forgotten to let me know that I was going. Now this could have been rough, but I like to think I'm experienced in the "fly by the seat of my pants" way of life. So that's what I did. I hurried to package up a few more straps, got ready(sort of:)) and headed to Salt Lake City to the "This is the place" Stake Park.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun and how interesting our tour was there. Garrett has since decided that he wishes he had "old fashioned school --even though there was a paddle for using your agency poorly" and he wants to "be a blacksmith" when he grows up.
In the dance hall they learned to do the "virginia reel" dance...once again -- I was surprised at how much the kids liked it. Garrett smiled the whole time
He even got to push and pull a 125 pound handcart.

Garrett is a pretty lucky boy to have had Maddie and Trey as close friends (and cousin:)) since Kindergarten.
I can't believe we've lived here this long and haven't visited that park. Garrett and I decided that we'll be going back soon.
Thanks Ms. E for the good day -- it turned out great!

I'm sure the strps were still waiting when you got home, but you chose the better part. Garrett seems to be doing really well now. Gotta love that smile.
Love you all and always,
Grandpa Bart
I'm seeing more and more of those Garrett smiles...makes me feel good all over:)!
Glad you got to go, Maddie had a great time too, she said, "I shared my lunch with Garrett and Aunt MEgan bought me a Sprite". Thanks for making her feel special!
