For two days it's been Yeti, Yeti, Yeti. Last night I sat down to the computer after the kids went to bed and it was on a Sasquatch Costume web page(because as Garrett says "after all, they're basically the same thing.) For a while there I thought he was really going to head to the Himalayas to become a Yeti. Yesterday he told Gavin that they would go to the Himalayas, be Yeti's, and live near a ski resort so they could go get the food from the ski resort. They would be the "smartest Yeti's there." Finally today, they asked me if they really could. I had to deny the chance for those boys. (I am very proud of Gavin for entertaining this conversation with Garrett, it's hard for him sometimes) I told them to pretend all they want but if they were asking me about real life, I had to turn them down.
So tonight at dinner Garrett calmed the family down and asked a serious question "What category of thing should I be good at?" We all had to think a while...then we realized he was asking us what we thought he had the potential to be good at in life. So I suggested academics and being friendly (yeah, I know, boring!) He quickly shot me down and said Science. Well, okay, that's academic so let's go with it. Then he added...a MAD scientist! And so, tonight our mad scientist can't sleep he's so excited...this is the note he brought down to Dad.

Translation(dad's answers are in italics):
Dear Parents:
May I do DNA experiments: only on insects
How big can the machines be: 4 feet (really Dad???)
What can I test them on: The table or in the garage
Write on ??? below.
Love Garrett
We are so excited for Garrett, he now uses an Alpha Smart (really cool keyboard) at school. It's a bit smaller than a laptop so he can bring it home at night...writing is not his forte...but he's got soooo much good info in there, we need to get it out!
After he came down to give us the note he told us that Gavin had just made him feel really good inside. With tears in his eyes he said "Gavin told me I was really good at science and that he was proud of me for doing good"
Philip and I are pretty lucky to have that boy as our child!!

Yes you are!
We've often talked about Spencer and his role in Hunter's life. We like to think they were good friends in the life before and that Spencer agreed to come down and be Hunter's friend/brother/protector/buddy. Seems Garret has the same in Gavin.
We all have those kinds of problems in one degree or another in some area of our lives. Garrett is very bright and with God's help and yours he will find a way to absorb truth and will become a great contributer to society and his own family. It is a challenge to keep imagination aligned with reality, but then what we call reality today was once a figment of someone's imagination. I do know God allowed Garrett to be a part of your family and ours for a good reason. By prayerfully working together we will all be blessed and he will find his real role in life. Remember he is still a child and healthy children are imaginstive. What a blessing it is that we can all bless one another's lives, especially in family relationships.
Love you all and always,
Grandpa Bart
My heart just melted. What sweet boys! Love it. You are great parents with great kids!
Thanks for sharing, LOVE those boys!
And for the record, we have known for years that Garrett is a great scientist!
Love Aunt Rene
Cute story. Doesn't it make your heart melt when your children have moments like that together.
That picture of all the kids together on the sidebar- after reading the story- I looked over at it and Garrett looks exactly the same as that cute little boy on the floor of your front room playing with a balloon on his first birthday. I have a picture of that. He's so handsome.
