my friends is the reason I'm not a fan. Nope, not a fan of a stinking cold, cold and snowy, dirty winter. Now I will concede that there are some very beautiful winter scenes. Sometimes I go out and think 'Snow is so beautiful' .... granted they are few and far between, but those moments do happen. So don't come at me with your "I love winter" junk...cuz I see it, I really do....I just don't, in general, agree.
So back to the picture. Libbie, in her cutie petootie, loving way...comes and asks to go outside and play in the snow. Knowing that I surely am not shedding my pj's to go out and freeze my hiney off I tell her to go out and play with her Dad, who has been shoveling for 45 minutes. I tell him she's coming out and he says "I'm done, I'm freezing!" Soooo, we call the neighbor boy, get her suited up(which takes another 15 minutes) head her over to his house while he gets suited up(another 15 minutes) and they go play. Playing lasts about 30 minutes, she comes in freezing and wants Hot Cocoa and starts to cry because her hands are so cold -- yes, she had gloves on.
Anyway, we shed the outer shell of her clothing, turn on the good old electric fireplace, and get her some hot cocoa....and life is okay again. But really, did we have to go through all of that? Couldn't we just have looked out the window and say "Oh, it's snowing, how pretty."
Kids, dirt, snow, cold...they don't mix in my book. So....the flip- flops, yes you guessed it, they are the 1 thing that is not like the other in the picture. And yes, I wore them to the bus stop in 12 degree weather. It my own personal rebellion, I choose to believe it's warm out.:)
I have this lovely neighbor, whom I love dearly and who will remain nameless, because...yes, she does...she LOVES winter! She loves the snow. She gets all gussied up in her snow clothes, comes over and knocks to see if I'll come out to play. Ba- humbug I tell her! Then I feel guilty and put on my flip flops and go out to play(cuz I really like playing with her...she's cool!). She even tried to get me to make a snowman last year --- can you believe it? Man I'm glad she's pregnant this year...I won't have to play in the snow out of guilt.

It is so sad, you are missing half of life, at least in this part of the country. Bundle up, exchange your flip-flops for some good winter boots, put on some good warm gloves, wait till the sun is shining and go for a long walk inthe fresh air. It'll do you good. At least it does for me.
And besides, just remember if we didn't get any snow, the grass would not get green in the summer and you might even miss a good cool glass of water, or anything else that's liquid and drinkable. I always said: aperson can dress for the cold. When it's to hot however, you can only take off so much clothing.
Love you all and always,
Grandpa Bart
Enjoy the season and especially right now at the Christmas time.
I agree!!! 100%! And that sweet friend is awesome, even though she likes the snow:)
Amen amen! I've been grumbling this week as the snow and cold move in. I just keep thinking about May! It seems so far away. I also wore my flip flops to run the kids to school today. My kids think it's not fair that I get to and they don't. Tough cookies. The whole outside ritual is such a pain in the winter...and why, oh why does it include a messy kitchen with hot chocolate spilled all over my counter? Yep...total negative attitude this week.
I love the snow!! But I think I like summer a tiny bit more. And it has nothing to do with the no school factor, no never. Anyway hot choco and the fireplace do help if you're not a fan of the cold!! <3 ya :D
I'm with you. The thought of going sledding with the youth sends chills up my spine. ha. I don't know about your 'neighbor', being preggos, she might want to be out in the cold more-internal heater and all.
I have a love/hate relationship with snow. I do like to sled and play in it occasionally, and I do think it's pretty. On the flip side- I don't like slick roads, the never ending winter colds, and the dirty little puddles that little boots bring all over my house. I also dislike putting on shoes. I'd much rather slip on some flip flops like you.
I love the snow all through December, but then I get really tired of it by January, and there's still a good three months or so of winter left at that point! So for now, yes, you will see posts on my blog about how I love the snow, but give me a few weeks and I'll be grumbling! :) LOL I loved your reference to Sesame Street! Now that song is stuck in my head!
I tried to comment on this on my phone but it just wouldn't work...basically I love/dislike it also. LIke the beauty and quiet and sometimes playing in it...don't like the COLD and especially don't like the driving problems. This year it was COLD (below zero for days) when it snowed and the ice was about 4" deep on the highways for at least 3 days...yuk!!!
