Me: No, why?
Garrett: Well, how does the girl blood and the boy blood both get into the baby?
Me: Well, a party of the mommy and a part of the daddy come together to get the baby into the mommy's tummy.
Garrett: No, I mean scientifically -- how does it happen.
Me: The DNA of the Mommy and the DNA of the Daddy come together to make the baby.
Garrett: (laughing a bit) Well, MOM...HOW does it get in there? Oh, I know -- does the Dad poop it in?
Me: No he doesn't poop it in. Okay, Garrett I'll tell you how....but it's really important and I want to have this conversation another time. Is that okay?
Garrett: Okay, I love you Mommy.
NOW WHAT???? HE'S EIGHT!!!!

Oh My!
If he's really curious, I imagine you can find a kids-level book at the library or Barnes and Noble that explains it in a way where you and Philip don't have to get too personally involved.
I'm not quite ready for that talk with Emily, either, to tell you the truth.
Holy Cow! Good luck with that conversation! :)
Good luck with THAT! Brian keeps pushing me to have the talk with Kali but I've been putting it off. Maybe i'll send her over and you can take care of both kids at once :)
It has only just begun. He is too Young to be so smart and curious~!
wow, he's only eight! Maybe you can put it off untill he's old enough...good luck with keeping his mind off of it! Alyssa loves you and says she'll be seeing you!
Just sit down and tell him. Usually, our children are ready for things before us.
JT wants to college in the summer... eight months. I am not ready to send him off.... oigh
You could just send Garrett to Aunt Rene, you know how I love to teach them stuff ;-)
I like Jared's suggestion seems like a book is a good start.
Good luck.
Wow!! I'm looking forward to hearing what you tell him. My girls have had questions about tampons and what are they for and I've just told them that they are for girls and I'll explain them when they're older. I'm not looking forward to questions like Garrett's. However, my mother told me nothing and that always bothered me. I had to learn from my older sister. I promised myself that I'd be more open with my girls. Good luck.
I can't wait to hear the answer to this one! :) Good luck!!!!!
Clint says he's already heard something and he's trying to get the straight scoop from you. It's really not that difficult. Usually they don't want to know as much as you feel like you need to tell them. Just be straightforward and keep asking if they understand and if they need to know more. He'll probably be happy with one answer. When Will was young and asked this kind of question, you were there and you just put your hands over your ears. He only wanted one or two pieces of info...can't remember exactly what tho:)!
The physical side is realatively easy to explain, compared to the the psychological i.e. "the party of the woman and the part of the man." Typo's can be hillarious, or was it a typo?
Good luck with your new found duties.
Eight or nine is the age we have had the "talk". It seems so young, but in this day and age, it really isn't. I agree with Mimi, they don't need much info at this age and are really satisfied with a really simple answer.
I told Guy that I had the talk with Adam, Jake and Sadie, and now it's all him- I'm done.
Good luck!
