iRock

The start of UEA weekend and what did we have planned? Nothing. Should we pop some pop corn and watch a movie? Nah -- let's go rock climbing!
(I didn't get pics, so we have our Internet standbys to give you a visual)

Off we went. Garrett and Gavin have both tried rock climbing walls once and struggled a bit so we didn't know what to expect. They both surprised us. They were climbing machines by the time we left. They both made it to the top of two of the walls several times. I chose not to climb so I was belaying all the kids. After my 10 second training from the 18 year old girl there I was off and ready to go?? I only dropped Philip on the floor once.....so they said I did good? Goodness, the pressure to keep a guy heavier than you in the air. My pants were NOT feeling so good when I was done. TMI, I know -- but goodness.

Back to the kids. Libbie had to overcome her fear of a certain grip that looked like a pink worm. After that she was a machine too. She made it half way up one of the walls. Pretty darn good for a five year old, I'd say. My favorite part about watching the boys was to see their determination. Neither of them showed confidence when we started but by the end -- Garrett kept saying "must get higher" and Gavin wasn't gonna let any wall get the best of him.

Their last run Philip and I were belaying them side by side and they were cheering each other on as they climbed. On the way down they were saying "Great job Gavin" and "Great job Garrett" Philip and I couldn't help but beam. Our boys were getting along and feeling good about what they had just accomplished. Who knew it could happen?

We topped the night off with a big old FAT meal at Iggys! YUM!!!!!

Next time we're doing this....

or maybe this.....

And all that adventure in air conditioned splendor. It does't get much better than that.
