Okay, so maybe I post too much. But since this is serving as a journal for our family -- I need to document what/when I can.:)Garrett has always taken his lunch to school for the last two years. Philip and I are fine with making his lunch. He has always been concerned that he won't get the food he wants at lunch. For example, every Wednesdsay is pizza day. He LOVES pizza -- so I asked him if he wanted to buy his lunch on Wednesdays(realizing full well that this could throw off his routine, but thought it might be good for social aspects) He said "No, because they might not have cheese pizza and that's the only kind I like."
So -- he takes his lunch every day. He ALSO brings home his lunch everyday. Brown bag or lunch box, his lunch remains come home. PB & J crusts, apple cores, juice boxes, you name it -- it comes home. He told us last year that he couldn't throw his stuff away because that garbage can was ONLY for people who buy lunch at the school(and remember we can't do that:)) This was a battle we chose not to fight -- besides then I could see what he ate. (trying to see the glass half full)
WELL -- drumroll please... the other day I noticed he stopped bringing his lunch home. WAHOO!! No more stinky apple cores, half eaten cheese crackers, and no more forgetting to empty his lunchbox until the morning. I'm not sure what is happening to his lunch: different trash can, leaving it on the table -- I may have to be like John Cusak again and spy.:)
Nevertheless, we now send his lunch in a paperbag and never see it again. It's the simple things that make me happy.
P.S. he ALSO bought pizza the other day at lunch.;)

Again...love those grandkids. I remember wiping lunch gunk out of many of lunch box...sacks sound so much better! Garrett is indeed an original, but I see aspects of some of you kids in him from time to time...thinking of Will and Paige this time!
I am totally with Garrett on this one, I have eatten school lunch, I make my children eat school lunch. I hate school lunch---and you never know when they leave cheese off things! Totally on board with his logic there. ~Aunt Rene
