A great week of High Adventure

We did lots of skiing & knee boarding....
some scuba...

Just got back from a week of High Adventure at Camp Hunt. We sailed across the lake, Water skied, snorkeled, scuba, canoeing, kayaked on the bird refuge, geocaching, and service projects,

sailing....

and kayaked through the bird refuge.

The best part was the nightly devotionals that we did. The purpose of the whole week was to help them overcome trials and focus on the atonement and the problems we can overcome through Christ. On Monday night we talked about trails and had the boys get a rock and write a specific thing that they wanted to overcome on the rock. We did that every night. On Friday we had our devotional and then we all marched down to the lake in silence and spread out on the lake shore. One by one the boys reviewed what they wrote on the rocks and then tossed them into the lake (symbolic of casting our burdens on the Lord.)

I am fortunate to have these experiences.

Phil! Look at you on the water! Looking good! Glad to see you got to have some serious fun with your scouts.

It's a small world. I was surprised to se you at 7:15 this morning. I guess great minds run in the same channel. It's great that your high adventure program went so well. I'm excited about the increased emphasis on high adventure and the older youth who are in such a critical stage of their lives. Every young man needs a "Gang" like those you were with and a caring adult male role model. You are involved in a great work.

Love you all and always,

Grandpa Bart

I thought it was significant that the first thing Jacob told me about (before the water skiing attempt) was the rocks. It obviously made a big impact. Thanks for spending so much time with the boys. It means more than you know.

I agree with Julie. The time you spend with our boys means ALOT to them and to us.
After our conversation the other day about me not missing all the activities Nik had to go to, and AJ's talk yesterday, I realized that those spiritual and fun experiences are what I definitely miss. At his age they just don't have access to those great opportunities anymore, and we as parents can't really fill in to make them happen.
I hope he remembers them and misses them too.

Thanks for all you do, Phil and keep it up. It matters.

How wonderful Philip...I have a personal testimony of the spriritual growth that can occur in the wilderness...or even a camp! So glad you are able to be a part of these type of things!
