G-Rated to me

If you are offended by TMI re: the birds and the bees...stop reading. If you like a cute story about Garrett...read on.

So, we had the talk. The big birds and bees talk with Garrett. It was a few months ago. He took it all in stride. We didn't hold back -- told it all. We told him that he could talk to us about this anytime. The conversation finished by him telling us "that's disgusting!" Very appropriate, I thought.

So, the next day at Wal Mart I was buying diapers for someone else. Of course this triggers his brain to the conversation the day before. He says (very loud I might add) "So Mom, you and Dad probably don't do that disgusting thing anymore because the sex would get stuck in your stitches!" (I had surgery a year ago on something similar to a hernia) Oh goodness...when we told him he could talk to us about it anytime, I didn't realize that would be at Wal Mart and it would be about ME! I quickly responded -- "first of all Garrett, I think you mean the sperm would get stuck in my stitches, and second of all, my surgery went fine and I am the same as I was before, no more stitches" He gave me another disgusted answer ..."OH?"

We've had a few other incidents regarding the birds and the bees -- such as at the Bishops house discussing how baby Jesus got here ---just use your imagination. Also, he whispers to Philip a lot "I"m your son because of the sperm!" At least he's learned to whisper.

Finally the other day he told me he needed to talk in private about something with me. He says "Mom, I've been thinking, does the sperm hurt?" I said, no, you can't even feel it. Then he says "No, I mean, when it comes out?" AGH!!! How do I answer that honestly? My lightening fast answer "no -- it's not a big deal" Yeah, right.....wait until he asks his Dad.

You are a brave woman! I haven't got quite that far in the converations yet with Sarah. We've been talking about all the 'grown up' stuff she will get to do very soon like shave her legs, and use deodorant. I need to take her shopping in the next month for training bra's. Which will bring us to the next conversation, a woman's cycle and . . .
Does it seem like girls bodies are developing sooner?

Yikes! So glad that particular part of raising kids is past! Garrett is very unique and probably feels the need to know details..so fun! Happy parenting!

Oh man Megan, I think I am blushing just reading your post. That Garrett is something else!

Wow, I dread that conversation someday for the very reason that my little "have to know the details" girl, Kayla, will ask toooo many questions in the wrong places, ie- walmart, sams, or worse- church. You're brave!!
Good luck with the continued conversations that will come up with Garrett.

We've really tried to be open about stuff and use the right terminology. This backfired when Sadie was at a friend's house and told the mom, "Boy's have a penis and I have a vagina." She was 4 and the mom was mortified. Better than what I got, which was no information at all.

Can I just send my kids to you and you can have "the talk" with them? Kali is definitely past the age where she needs the low down.

This might be kind of inapropriate(not in a 'disgusting' way:)), but that was FUNNY!! I could not stop laughing!! wow...i'm forgetting how fast they're growing!
