This family likes to stay up late -- we put the kids to bed on time but have you ever forced a child to sleep. Nope, it can't be done. So we wait -- then we have our alone time each night -- after that it seems it's LATE.
This family likes to sleep. We all LOVE our sleep. Unfortunately, as seen in prior posts, the kids like our bed better. Maybe we'd better get them some nice mattresses with electric blankets?
This family is not a morning family. The alarm goes off -- Philip turns it off, he and I lay there debating -- how long can we put off getting up before the kids will be late to school? Oh how I despise getting out of bed!
I do need to note, Philip can switch on us, out of nowhere, he can turn happy and excited about the day, now that is just plain annoying!! The kids and I are still struggling to wipe the sleep out of our eyes and he's smiling and happy cooking breakfast. Oh, nothing can create an uglier scene.
The chaos begins. Mom makes lunches. Dad makes breakfast. Libbie runs around asking everyone what they are going to do today. The boys wrestle.
Mom helps get boys dressed. Dad showers. Libbie runs around trying to get attention or crying she is cold. The boys wrestle(yes, while I'm trying to help them stay focused on getting dressed)
Mom prepares backpacks. Dad gathers kids for scripture study. Libbie clings to Dad before he leaves for the day. The boys wrestle.
And it's quiet. We read scriptures, we pray.
AGH...more chaos. "Boys, get your coats, gloves, boots and backpacks on. Boys, get in the car." Libbie cries to say good bye as if Dad & boys are leaving for a year. "Boys get in the car!" Libbie still cries. Philip is in the car honking. "BOYS, get in the car!!" "I love you boys, have a great day, do something nice for someone else today and remember what you stand for." Libbie gives one more wave...
And it's quiet again.
And so it goes day after day. Philip and I discuss how to make it better -- nah, it's our own little piece of chaos.

Sounds WAY too familiar! Comforting to know there are other homes like ours every morning!
I am glad to hear that other people don't like to wake up in the morning too. Yay, it's not just me :)
We don't like the morning rush either, so my wife prepares as much as she can the night before (while we await the sleeping children) to cut down on the chaos. Lunches can be made, bags packed and set by the door, clothes put in neat little piles by person--even the adults (at least picked out). When we're gearing up for a busy week she will make extra batches of waffles (or whatever) when the days are a little more calm--like Saturday--and freeze them to pop in the toaster. I've never been much for preparation, but she's making a believer out of me!
Spencer -- hats off to your wife!:)
No can do in this house...lunches, nope. Has to be P,B & J for Garrett and heaven forbid the jam seep into the bread overnight. Backpacks, quite honestly they are usually packed, but putting the lunches in seems to take time. Clothes, nope. Kids change their minds. Breakfast -- Philip cooks anyway.;)
yeah, we just seem to like chaos.
i love it! You should just hang in there and keep going on, or you'd lose your style!
I'm soaking up the laid back life style of having only one in school... and having her in afternoon kindergarten. I know this is probably the last year of my life where I'll get to enjoy slow mornings!
Ha! This is the stuff that family is made of.... I got nostalgic just reading it :) - Paige
