The Gift of Giving 2008

I am excited to report that our neighborhood's first annual "Gift of Giving" project was a success. A few friends of mine and I decided to invite the whole neighborhood to our homes to have hot cocoa, treats and socialize. We also collected donations for a local food bank. We asked that they give this donation in lieu of "neighbor gifts." We felt that we could each use one less plate of cookies at Christmas and give to those who are really in need.

We collected about $680. Honestly, there were not a lot of people who came(in comparison to the many invites we sent out) but those who came gave generously. What an awesome neighborhood we have.

Our food bank told me that they will be providing approximately 900 dinners this year. We are excited to go purchase some food for those who are less fortunate.

Thank you so much to those of you who contributed, you not only provided a chance for others to have a wonderful Christmas meal but you made our families Christmas that much better!

I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Rene, you're right, I do owe you hot chocoalte. and there's still time to contribute.:) We just gave to everyone in the 3 surrounding subdivisions. Your neighborhood would be the 4th.:) Take care.

You are always looking for ways to do good. I like what was on the Saviors' Day Planner " And He went about doing good." Sounds like you and Philip might have read that book.

that's a LOT of money donated with not very much effort. That's pretty amazing way to go Megan!!!

That's great Megan. One of our neighbors has organized a similar effort this year.
