Selfless gift

Our 10th Anniversary is next Friday. Philip is going to be gone working -- so we decided to celebrate today. He came home from work this afternoon and said "DON'T look in the car" well, of course, I wanted to look in the car. So I said, "Whatever it is, just give it to me at dinner." and here's the rest of the conversation:

Philip: I can't, it's too big.

Megan: What is it? A Diamond? (sarcastic tone)

Philip: Don't be mad, it's just big. I've wanted to get you one for a while.

Megan: What in the heck could you get me? Oh my gosh, you got a big flat screen TV didn't you?

Philip: Okay, I'm bringing it in now.....because it's not a TV.

Maybe this is not your dream gift, but it is mine! I've been wanting a cello for a while now. Not because I can play it...but because I want to learn.

What a thoughtful and selfless gift -- he could have gotten away with the flat screen and yet he still chose cello. I TOLD YOU he was great!!!

I have a blister on my fingers from playing for an hour. I didn't need to hurt any one's ears any longer. Gavin kept asking -- Mom, what song is that?? :) Sorry kids, it'll be a while till you recognize them.:)

OH MY GOSH! That is awesome! Philip..you've out done yourself again boy!
Megan, I can't wait....I want to come over right NOW!
What a great anniversary gift...one of the best! You guys were meant for each other.
Now, go learn some tunes and let's put a band together!

Ummmm, one more thing...are you teaching yourself how to play?
If Molly still really want to learn the Harp man we could really get something going here....
Okay, I think I am almost as excited as you!

Wahoo! That's awesome! I love the way a Cello sounds. Learn it quick and you and Addison could do a duet with his violin. I love strings!

I'm a bit nervous about the sound of this one. he must have got a defect -- it's not sounding perfect yet!:) Just kidding -- but I have already practiced today -- and realized how much MORE i need to practice.;)

Phil, what a GREAT gift for your wife! Megan, you are so fortunate...and I love the way your tackled it immediately. I assume it's close to a viola?? The way you play I mean? You can always ask Kenna for pointers...she played in elementary school, remember? Now, I'm wondering what your present to Philip was? Love you!

See, I told you Philip takes after
me, always so......thoughtful,ha!
seriously, that's an awsome gift.
Practice, practice, practice,
sounds easy doesn't it. Knowing
you, you will have it mastered real
soon. Oh, what did you get Philip?
You can tell us we won't tell.
Thanks for being happy together.
Love, Iris

YIPEE! HOORAY! We LOVE the cello and LOVE that you are going to learn it! I too aspire to playing it! I just love the sound of it! Gabe plays too (for 2 years-I hope he sticks with it!) We could have a little trio...well, OK, a trio of really, really easy songs for cello! Hee hee. What a great gift!!!!

Maybe there is a method in his madness. While you are practicing he's going to be gone????? You'll have it mastered in no time, knowing you. I love strings too and that includes of course fly lines.

Man, the pressure's on. Everyone I've talked to says"Oh I love the cello, I can't wait to hear you play" Ummmm, beginner guys -- don't expect much.:)

BUT, if you do have any hints for the cello -- I'm all ears. :)

I don't squeak except on the D string. Is that weird??
Erica, if you're reading -- I'm gonna need virtual lessons.:)

angie -- you're so excited that I can't understand your second comment. Let me know what songs you know -- and I'll start learning a duet -- I can be the QUIET background.:)

I am jealous. Not just the cello, but the fact that you can already play. I've always wanted to learn, guess learning to read music would be a good first step.:)Maybe diamonds would be a more practical gift for me.

That is the coolest present ever! I always wanted to play the cello but my fingers are too short - so I play the violin instead. I have had a goal to play the piano forever and you are my inspiration that you can never be too old to learn a new instrument! Good luck with the cello!

How is the cello coming? I think that is an awesome present. And for not making it squeak, Way to go!!!!

Wow, you "look" like you can play beautifully. Are you taking lessons?

No lessons here -- just banging my head against a wall to teach myself.:) Any cellist would tell you my hand looks awful -- but I'm working to fix that. Just having fun(while callousing my fingers.:))

Megan, that's so exciting! Didn't you play the violin a long time ago? Those strings are all the same anyway, just learning the different fingering....You'll be playing with Yo-Yo in no time!

We have a cello sitting in our closet that hasn't been played in 10 years. Wish I had known, we would have given you a good deal!

Keep your cello and start playing -- we'll have a concert together!:)
