TTA - Summer Memories

What do you remember about your childhood summers?

The LONG yellow slip-n-slide that we laid out on our front lawn with bricks to hold the sides down and part way across the sidewalk -- so sliding down was very strategic -- don't hit the bricks and be careful of the sidewalk part!:) Oh -- and watch out for the occasional bee sitting on the side of the slip n slide laying in wait to sting you! The best part is....we LOVED it!

The Livermore Rodeo Parade: In my younger years I'd pull my wagon the few blocks down to the parade and set up my lemonade stand. Then when I got older we'd walk up and down the street selling snow cones as a camp fundraiser. I got pretty good at yelling "Snow cones for sale!"

Trips to Colorado -- My Mom's parents lived in Durango, Colorado and it seems every summer we'd make the long two day haul in the Ford Econoline to Durango. I loved visiting the Ranch every summer...horseback riding, playing in the fields and canals and most of all -- hanging out with my Grandpa, Grandma and Uncles.

Playing at the creek. What were my parents....crazy?? We always went to a creek about a 1/2 mile away and played....sometimes swimming through the tin tubes that the water flows through...crazy! It was A LOT of fun -- especially catching tad poles.

Probably my most favorite were days at the beach! We were about an hour and a half away from Santa Cruz....my favorite beach when I was growing up. Family, ward and youth activities and when I got older trips with my friends....GREAT MEMORIES!:)

Family memories in youth are the building blocks of successful and for that matter uncesuccessful people and lives. We do have some say about what kind of meomories we will have, bad or good. They don't have to b elaborate or expesive, but they usually involve lving family members and friends.

Great childhood memories! I feel bad for my kids (all kids, actually)that they don't have the freedom that we did to just run around outside all day and eventually find their way back home when it gets dark. Those were the "good 'ole days!"

Aahhh...the Slip and Slide. I don't remember ever feeling any of the cuts, bruises or "grass burns" until after I stopped and unthawed. About the Bear Lake Marathon, I am registered for the half but we'll see. A friend of mine from jr. high and high school is running the half-marathon as well, I haven't seen her since I was 18.

Love the TTA! What a great idea. I saw a link on your page. Is this someone you know or how did you hear about it? I think I might have to start doing it! :)

On another note-I also see your countdown clock is set to be done tomorrow!!!! What do you say to marathoners? Break a Leg? No-that doesn't sound right... Run Fast? Don't Die? Enjoy the Pain? Let's just stick with BEST OF LUCK!! I can't think of anything that would appeal to me less which is why I admire so much the dedication it must take to do a freakin' marathon! Outstanding! I hope it is an amazing experience!!

Thanks Michelle! I will need it -- the anxiety has set in! Saturday morning I will be in beautiful downtown Huntsville, Eden and Ogden Canyon -- 5 hours later I'll be on 25th St. in Ogden...DONE!:)
As for what to say...how about "beware of the porta potties!"

TTA -- yes, I just found it one day...anyone can "join" They post their question on Friday so you have time to think about it and then everyone posts on Tuesday. If you want your name on their list -- just leave them a comment saying so.

Good luck on the marathon! I'm sure it will be an unforgettably wonderful experience! (The wonderful part usually comes AFTER you're done :))
Beware - the whole experience can be quite emotional. My friend and I cried at the finish line - and not from the pain....
