I found this poem in Garrett's 2nd Grade Memory book that his teachers put together for him. I LOVE it -- very insightful.
(warning: you need a bit of Mario Video Game background to understand one of the stanzas.)
If I were in charge of the world,
I'd cancel dying, meat, dogs and girls.
If I were in charge of the world,
There'd be 10 billion of me, all kids would have super powers,
there'd be no wars and 60 Super Smash Brothers.
If I were in charge of the world,
You wouldn't have Mario.
You wouldn't have Yosi.
You wouldn't have bullies.
You wouldn't even have King DDD.
If I were in charge of the world,
ice cream would be a vegetable
and football would not exist.
And a person who sometimes forgot to control his temper,
And sometimes forgot to be nice to his brother
Would still be allowed to be in charge of the world.

That is priceless! I love the ending...
Aren't Mrs. Stenquist and Mrs. Williams great?! I loved the book they put together for Nik way back when. I like the way Garrett thinks. He's a great kid!

A little imagination goes a long way. Unfortunately the politicians we all hear the most of can't, or wont, tell the difference between the way it as and the their own egocentric fantasies. At least Garrett's fantasies are harmless. I'd vote for him any day. I think this was profound for a kid his age.
Loved it!
Classic! That last stanza was pure poetry!! I love it! Aren't kids the best?! Hey-we are coming to SLC (AGAIN!) in a few weeks for a camp, a wedding, and a family reunion (we are trying to cram in as much a possible!) but if you guys are around we'd love to see you.
