Okay, we're coming up on the weekend. I've already had two days where I've gone over my target amount of calories(only by about 100-200) BUT STILL -- I"m teetering!! I wanted a Dr. Pepper yesterday pretty bad. I need some assistance here. Words of encouragement will take me miles!:) Speaking of -- I need to run 14 tomorrow. Anyone up for it? Rene, I heard you and Megan were out this week.:)
So, back to those words of encouragement -- what do you have for me?
BTW -- when I am watching what I eat closely -- it seems our world is made of FOOD! Do you ever notice that? "What treats are you brining? Do you want to go out to eat?" Commercials, pantries --- EVERYWHERE!:)
Well, I'm off to volunteer in Garrett's class -- where, by the way, they will be having ...yes, you guessed it...SNACK!!!!! Grrrr!

I think you are too hard on yourself - it sounds like you're doing awesome!!!! I would offer encouragement but I have put on 10 ib since last fall so I don't have any room to talk. Although, this week I have been writing down everything that I put in my mouth and that has helped keep me on track. I'm down 1.5 ibs this week. Only 8.5 to go!
You can do it!!! Be strong and you will get where you want to be. I am very impressed by your will power. Because I don't seem to have any :(
You are almost to the end and then we get to go to WC!
Michelle
I am glad you have been able to get out and do some running. I've been doing more wiping of runny noses lately than I have actual running. We have been sick for weeks now and it is taking a toll on my training.
Oh well, it is mind over matter, right. BTW, I just started an experiment, everytime I want to snack I make myself clean a bathroom. By the time I am done, that last thing I want to do is eat. Hang in there, Candice
ewww -- bathroom cleaning -- I could try it.:) and yes, it is ALL mind over matter, especially with the running. I'm gonna do 14 tomorrow. Wish me luck.:)
Let's see words of advice ~ put your swimsuit out where you can see it (hang on the pantry door) and everytime you go for the looking.... think about the suit :) I have heard it works! OK so yeah, I could do 14 miles tomorrow with you...I will follow behind in my car :) cuz no way am I ready for that! I went less 3, and still have sore legs. ~You can do it....Love Rene
You have always had will power that amazed me! You look great and are great so keep telling yourself that! That is my only advice because I don't have the will power!
Good luck on your run this morning. Jake is already on his bike doing th SLC marathon bike tour...talk about will power the boy was up a 4:30 am this morning.
I will talk to you Mon...good luck my friend.............
Actually I do have some advice for you. I want you to enjoy your life and being healthy and fit is an important part of that. However, eating is so much fun, and food tastes so good, and we seem to have plenty of it.
Here,s my suggestion and I will guarantee it works. After every run treat your self to a good thick home made ice cream shake, any flavor you want. Just make sure that you include a half cup of milk of magnesia in the recipe. Happy running and don't get to far from home.
Love ya,
Granda Bart
Unfortuanatly for many people, after a long run(mine was 14 this morning) milk of magnesia is not needed!:) Just as JT.
Meegs,
Please don't take this wrong. the reason you crave calories is because you are burning them at a huge rate. Running 14 miles will require a ton of calories. Running 25-40 miles per week means a 'diet' is unrealistic.
Worry about keeping your calories down after your marathon. For now, you need fuel or your body will break down and won't be healthy.
Eat well during your training. When you scale back the exercise, then scale back the eating.
Also, fuel up during your runs.
Try stuff like this:

In one of these:

You'll have 500-600 calories in the flask and be able to train better. Plus it's not messy like the single serve packets.
Thanks jared -- Yes, I agree with you -- I'm not actually dieting -- just fueling up on healthy food instead of processed and sugary foods --- it's just the sugar I crave sometimes. My body has actually been performing better since I am eating more "whole foods" -- but once again -- no perfection here -- and honestly not too much dieting -- just eating right. Which is JUST AS HARD!!:) THANKS for the links. the 14 miler went GREAT today -- the Gu really helped!! I also brough oranges and a bit of gatorade -- with my trusty water. I felt tons better...but then again 14 isn't 26.:)
I totally agree with Jared...training for a marathon is not the time to cut back drastically on your calories! The pounds will come off with the increased exercise. If you are not the size you want to be after the marathon, cut back on the exercise and be more concerned abou the calorie count. AND eat only whole, unprocessed foods as much as possible and you will find yourself NOT wanting processed/fast food/sugary food, etc. It just takes a little time and it'll happen, I promise. Your body will love you for it! BTW, I know you will finish the marathon...or at least start it:)!
Oh, and the reason you want sugar after a workout is because sugar equals instant -- albeit empty -- energy and fuel.
My trainer at the gym often rewards us with one of those mini hershey bars -- I like the Special Dark -- after we finish an hour of hard cardio.
When I do a 75-100 mile bike ride, I burn about 4-5,000 calories. And I need a big meal pretty quickly. So I eat one.
But I've also noticed m increased training has changed my eatin habits. I used to crave hamburgers and fries. Now I crave cucumbers and almonds. Wierd.
I started when Shana commented on my growing love handles and I tipped the scale at 201 pounds one day and vowed to never be a clydsdale again.
I'm now at 192 pounds and my 34 or36 waste pants have been traded in for 32s. It's a pretty good feeling when you continue sinching the belt up one extra notch every year.
okay okay!:) WEll it will make you happy to know that tonight I ate the beef stew and rolls and salad we had for dinner.:) I agree that my cravings are changing -- I just wanted a kick start to help me get back on track. I think I've done that -- and now I"m off to training. I really am not cutting back on calories -- i'm just OVER EATING -- like I used to. I promise.:) I made choc. chip cookies for a primary mtg. tonight(remember food is everywhere!) and OF COURSE I ate about 4 of them -- so I'm set for calories -- of course those were the wrong kind.:)
