Scouting in the desert

Gavins 11 year old Scout troop hiked to a local spot in January.  We had tried to find this trail once before becuase it's right in our backyard...Philip was glad to go with them so he could have a local guide.

Lots of fathers and sons makes for a good Saturday morning hike,

And petroglyphs at the end of the hike are always a bonus!
Garrett and his Troop hiked into the Kelso Sand Dunes last month.  They are out past Baker, CA in the Mojave National Preserve.  They got there just in time to "sandboard" by moonlight.

A little tired the next day

This is how they do desert camping.  You can bring your snowboard to the Mountain in March or you can bring it to the Sand Dunes.

There's a lot less gear required this way!:)

I'm so grateful Philip is able to go on their campouts with them.  He is an excellent support to them in all that they do!

We are glad the boys are out experiencing this beautiful world, be it in the desert or snow caving in the mountains in winter. They will always remember the good times and even the hard times will become good memories.

Keep on scouting!

Love you all forever,

Grandpa Bart
