Spring Break Happenings

This year we decided to save some money and just stay home for spring break.  Each of our children earned a reward for not missing a single day of scripture study through the first 3 months of the  year.  Garrett got some new Nike clothes.  He is getting real tall and has started to like basketball.

Gavin has started to like race cars and he chose to go to a local indoor race car track called Pole Position.  The cars go up to 45 mph.  He was going to race against his mom but she decided to give her race up to him so that he could go twice.

Libbie chose to go to the Phantom of the Opera with her dad.  It was a great time and she really enjoyed the production.  This is one of the advantages of living in Las Vegas there is some real good entertainment that you need to take advantage of.  Of course you have to avoid the trashy stuff, but there are always good things to do as well.
Here she is inside the theater just before the show started.  The theater at the Venetian is made just for the Phantom and is a very interactive experience.  Sadly the show will end in September.  We might have to go back one more time before it ends.  Next time I will take Megan.

We also decided to go to Hoover Dam with our friends the Stones from Utah.

Here is Gavin near the visitor center.  Notice the new bypass bridge behind him.  The bridge itself is worth seeing.

Here is a look at the dam from the bypass bridge.

A look at the bridge from the dam.
Here, Libbie is on the bridge on the border of Arizona and Nevada.  About half way across the bridge is the state line.

Megan in the parking terrace.  Gives yo a different perspective of the dam.  Plus she looks real cute.
We even squeezed in a Tennis lesson for Libbie.
She is starting to get the hang of it and is going to be real good if she stick with it.

We also went to the old Mormon fort.  This was the first settlement in Las Vegas and the kids enjoyed learning the history of the valley.

Here is Garrett and Gavin playing a game of checkers inside one of the original buildings at the fort.

Sounds like a great break to me, even though you didn't go far. That is great that they are dong so well with their scriptures and that you have some fun incentives for them. Enjoy your spring, it will soon be HOT!!!

Why would anyone want to travel for Spring Break when you have so much to see and do right at your doorstep so to speak? That is really true for most of us if we will just take time and open our eyes. This is a beautiful and interesting world.

Love you all and always,

Grandpa Bart

I agree with both comments, what a
great way to spend your break. We
do need to look around us to see
the beauties near us. I'm so happy
that the children are reading
their scripturies every day. They
will thank you when they are older.
They are doing happy activities and you are showing them that you
don't need to go far away to be
happy.

Love you all,

Grandma Iris

We love Phantom of the Opera! We might have to come down to Vegas and see it before it goes! That would be so fun! I'm glad you had a fun Spring Break!
