Mt. Charleston

Philip and the kids came to get me at the airport with a picnic in hand, ready to go to Mt. Charleston.  We had been trying to get up there through the year, but hadn't yet.  Boy were we sorry we had missed out on it for so long.  What an absolutley beautiful area and wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon with your family! Especially when you haven't seen them in a while.

good thing dad brought those BSA beanies, it was cold!

Not much snow in the West yet this year .. kind of a crunchy snow angel.:)

This photo is to document the pine trees...nothing more.

This tree was pretty cool -- hollowed out in the middle.  Lightening?  Libbie was very fearful to go inside it...but she would have fit....goodness, even I would have fit, those pines are great big and beautiful!

Garrett was in his element and so sad to leave.  We promised we'd go back soon.

The Mountain reminds me of the Sierra Nevadas...well, I guess we ARE in Nevada.

The moon was just coming up as we left.  We couldn't believe how pretty it was.
We had a whole Spring Break trip planned to go to Tahoe, San Fransisco and even see where I grew up (groans from our peanut gallery) They just want to go camping at Mt. Charleston...they win me over easily.  Mt. Charleston it is!

I think it so wonderful that there in the desert a magnificent mountain stands covered in snow. A wonderful place, nearby, to renew the soul. I'm happy that Garret likes these sorts of places.

Love you all forever,

Grandpa Bart
