another new adventure

Garrett turned 12 last Saturday and he's off on another new adventure of life.  In our church when you turn 12 it means you have come to an age where you can receive the Priesthood.  The Priesthood is the authority to act in the name of God.  Garrett received the Aaronic Priesthood on Sunday and was ordained to the office of  Deacon.  One of the duties that comes with this Priesthood is the ability to pass the Sacrament to the congregation in church on Sundays.  Garrett has been anticipating this opportunity with excitement and trepidation.  We are glad he is taking his duties seriously and know he will do a great job.

Garrett also completed a 4 year long goal of receiving his Faith in God award.   This is a program that the kids work of from the age of 8 through 11.  They complete 2 requirements each year in different areas such as:  Learning and living the Gospel, Serving Others, Developing Talents, and Preparing for the Priesthood.  4 years is a long time to have a goal, and Garrett did it.  Way to go!

When you're turning 12 and you live far away from family, you get a lot of presents in the form of cards...and an ice cream cake from close to home is always nice too.

Both of Garrett's Grandma's knew of the importance of receiving the Priesthood.  They gave him many words of encouragement, as shown in these cards.  Usually the cards are one liners -- not this time.:)

Garrett did get to do some un-churchy 12 year old stuff too.  Philip took him and a friend to go shoot their air-soft guns.  G got to try out his new air-soft Tommy Gun that he got from Grandpa Bruce.

We are sure proud of Garrett.  He is ready for the power of the Priesthood, he has the ability to recognize the Spirit and follow it,  he has a great compassion for his family that goes beyond his immediate family.  Garrett loves to research his family history and learn more about where he came from.  We are proud of his endeavors to try to be a better person.  He has a tougher road than most of us -- and boy does he work hard to keep moving forward.

We love you Garrett!!

We are very proud of Garrett too. He is an awesome young man. He will be a great help to the ward and all around him as he honors the Priesthood which he holds.

We love you very much Garrett.
Also, all of the rest of our Nevada family.
