Boy Scout and Indy Car Racing

The Championships for the Indy race series is October 16th 2011 at the Las V egas Speedway.  Indy has a partnership with the Boy Scouts of America and there is even a Boy Scout Indy car sponsored by Dale Coyne Racing.   Our local Boy Scout Council has been helping with the weeklong festivities associated with the Indy championship race.   The Council had an openhouse at the Scout Office where we had the showcar (2008 actual car) at the office and we had about 1,200 people come to meet the owners sit in the car and climb the climbing wall.  Today there was a pinewood derby race at the Mandalay Bay.  Each Indy race care driver was machted up with a scout from the Las Vegas Area Council.  Garrett was paired up with Graham Rayhall, and Gavin was chosen to be with Alex Lloyd who is the driver of the Boy Scouts of America Indy Car.

They got to team up and race a replica car of the real Indy cars down the track.  Gavin's team made the final but did not win.  The drivers signed the cars and gave them to the boys.  It was a great experience for each of them.  I hope they know how lucky they are to have these experiences.

How cool is that? It's such fun to be involved in a super event like that. It was fun to be with my boys when they raced in Pine Wood Drebies when they were young. I must admit, I think I was more tense about it than the boys were, but win or lose, blg event or samll, it was always fun to be together as a family cheering the boys and their cars on.

Love you all and always,

Grandpa Bart

And super cool to live in Las Vegas in order to take advantage of this event! Couldn't hardly see the pix on the phone, but these are great. So glad the boys got a chance to be involved in such a fun event.
