Red Rocks Climbing

While Uncle Jason was here with his climbing gear he let us climb a bit at Red Rocks.  Everyone that climbed decided it's a lot different than a rock climbing wall -- but just as fun!  Thanks for helping us Uncle Jason!!
Libbie was pretty brave -- she climbed her heart out -- even if she was "pulled" up most of the way
Of course she looked great while doing it!
Tanner and Gavin doing their own climb--and remember the Where's Garrett Post?  check it out HERE if you need a refresh -- anyway -- let's play it again with the above pic...
Garrett on his descent - he did great as well.
Looking good Philip!

WOW!!!!all of you look like you are
having a great time. I have never tried rock climbing and now I'm too
old. I'm glad to see all your kids
enjoying themselves. Fun time with
family.

That rock climbing reminds me so much of the time I went with Jason, Maddie, and Megan to Bloomington Lake. Jason and some other staff member from Camp Hunt, I can't remeber his name, were teaching Rick Barnes' troop from Morgan how to rock climb. There was this one boy who was over weight and had no confidence in his ability to do anything. They got him all harnessed up, and he started up the rock wall, saying: "I can't, I can't, I'm going to fall, I don't want to etc. etc. Jason and his fellow scouts kept encouraging him, telling him that he could really do it. He just needed to decide he could and stick with it. After what seemed like the longest time this young man finally reached the top. I will never forget the look on his face and the happy smile. He was so glad that he had done what he set out to do and would never have done without the encoragement and leadership of people like Jason, Rick Barnes, and his fellow scouts. How much this is like life. We can do it. Whatever we are called upon to do. We just need to make that personal decision, and then recieve guidance and encouragment along the way. No wonder I'm glad my boys got envolved in the scouting progam when they were young. They, and all of us, have been greatly influenced for good by the values scouting teaches.

Love you all and always,

Grandpa Bart

Thanks for that reminder Bart -- that IS why they do Scouting - and that is a good lesson for us all to remember...set our minds to it and do it.
Garrett just started Guitar lessons and the other day when he played his first "Song" (after saying he couldn't do it, etc) his face lit up like that too. It brought a tear to my eye to see that. It's nice when we can accomplish something that was "hard"

I have to say this really scares me...but I'm sure all are safe or you wouldn't let them do it right? I had to climb the HIGH lifeguard chair yesterday and that scared me! However I did it and sat there for about 30 minutes:). Even old dogs can learn new tricks.
