love this place

I love the beach.  I remember my Mom telling me once that the mountains "spoke to her."  I was about 20 and I thought she was insane.  I'm a bit older now and now it's me saying that the ocean "speaks to me"  It really does.   I'm not talking about the loud music, sand castle, people laying out beach.  I mean the ocean -- the sounds of the waves crashing aganist the cliffs up Oregon, the waves crashing against the beach so hard that the doors of the house rattle in Cabo, the soft and steady sounds of the waves in Southern California.

When I first moved to Utah that was one of my Mom's main concerns about me.  Not that I was so far away from family but that I was going to be so far away from the ocean.  She knew that the Ocean was the one place on earth where I was truly happy.  She suggested that I get a big poster of the ocean and put it in my room.  I never did because I thought it would make me more sad. 

It's been a long time since that January 1992 when I first moved to Provo.  I have to say I thought I had "adapted" to Mountain living...and I think I did quite well...but I forgot how much I LOVE the ocean.  We're planning a trip up the coast in August, from LA to the Redwoods, and I can't wait!

 Our children seem to have inherited the love too. 

 I know Garrett did-- that boy has loved to "crash waves" with his Dad since he could walk.
