More local info

The front of the kids school.  2010-11 is the first year it's been open.  It looks quite industrial from the outside but inside it's just as "comfy cozy" as Mt. View was.  It has about the same number of kids enrolled (750) but it was built for 900 so there is room to grow.  This year the kids have great class sizes (Libbie - 19, Gavin - 21, Garrett - 23)  I hope they stay that small next year too.  We have been very impressed with the "empowerment" part of the school, it's amazing what a few small changes can do to a cirriculum...not to mention extra PE days and 20 more minutes of school each day in Language Arts.  They also have a science teacher that each class goes to -- I love that too.  The "changing classes according to your level" thing is going great.  The kids are really thriving here academically.  Of course, we are ALL getting used to the homework load -- it's a lot higher.  I'd venture to say that we were about 1/2 a year behind this school at our school in Utah.  I'm sure I'll blog more about their projects -- we've already completed a few.  They don't need to be rocket scientists but I think they are on their way to learning and putting to good use better study habits.
This is our "neighborhood sign."  In Las Vegas every subdivision (old or new) has a name and then each "neighborhood" in that subdivision has a name.  So, we live in Maderia Canyon: Andorra.

I got Philip and Libbie out on my walk with me the first Saturday morning we were here.  I love that I can go out and get sunshine 12 months out of the year.

Looking lovely after our 4 mile walk
It may not show it but this hill is pretty steep.  This path is just behind our home and is perfect for family bike rides or walks.  Love it!

Thanks for posting about your new place! It looks like it's got some good things going for it. I know people that have grown up in Vegas and they really like it. :) I hope you guys like it too!
