Picture it.....A long day of driving(actually the drive went by quite quickly, but I'll add it in to make it sound good), you've stopped for dinner, it's cold outside and your body thinks it should be warm, cookies and crackers and water bottles all fall out of the van, 3 kids tumble out -- 2 of them with shoes and 1 hollering "I can't find my shoes!" You tell him to keep looking...and looking....and looking. You ask: "You had them on at the last rest stop right?" yes. "You wore them back to the car right?" Yes. You start cleaning up all of those lovely water bottles and lunch sacks from earlier in the 11 hour drive so far --- hmm? Funny.....there are NO 7 year old shoes in the car. Well, you're hungry and the others have already gone in -- so in he heads with mommy's size 9 clunker sandals on. What a sight. Oh well, they have to be in the van somewhere.Fast forward to later at dinner...
Gavin: Oh yeah, I know what happened. At that last gas station Libbie made me kick them off before I got in the car. Dad, I yelled to you to go get my shoes but you didn't.
Dad: I never heard you.
Libbie: I didn't make you.
Mom: WHAT?? You're school shoes are in the gas station parking lot in Panguitch, UT???? That's it, you are wearing your ugly white ones the rest of the school year and working off the skecher airaiders that were soooo important to have this year. Grrr!
This from the same little boy that we had to stop in Idaho Falls to buy shoes for when he was 5 because he forgot to put his shoes on before a trip to Montana.
Fast forward to when we get home.....
Philip was listening to the messages when we got home. There was a call from Philip's cell phone today at 4:15 PM...it went something like this..."Hi Santa, I want the big Bakugon that costs $30. Thank you." (Long pause with lots of shuffling) "here you go dad"
The kids were all looking at Christmas Catalogs in the car to pass the time...Philip remembers Gavin asking to use his cell phone to play brick breaker. Then seeing him under a blanket. He thought nothing of it. Apparently he was placing his order.
That's our Gavinator!!

LOL, Oh my Gosh that is so darn funny! I am going to call and leave my Santa order.
I love the shoe story. It sounds just exactly like something my kids would do.
I have similar shoe stories. Don't get my mom started on my lost shoes! Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. Lucky you only lost shoes!
We're one up on you. We left Justin in Thayne, Wyoming a return trip from Yellowstone Park. No stopping at Wal-Mart to get another one. We had to go back and get him. Dumb parents we were.
I was laughing so loud, Josh came over to see what I was doing. Got to love those family car trips.
I guess Gavin has already figured out who to call get what he wants for Christmas. Pretty smart kid.
Funny kid! Smart TOO! What a good idea- leaving your order on the answering machine.
That is so funny. You've gotta love those kids!
That kid knows how to work the system! ;) I love it! Placing his order under the blanket...classic!
I TOTALLY ripped off your mom's idea! I have been trying to figure out how to do something like this all week, but was just gonna forget it when the email came!! Perfect!! I am excited to do it with my family too! She must have been inspired to send it to me.
When you think of the shoes, just imagine that a needy child found them. Maybe it will take the sting out of the loss (haha). I'm sorry about the long drive. We drove 26 hours round-trip to St. George, not fun, but worth it!
nice, gavin! You're a smart kid, I'm proud of you! heehee
Candice- - I try to think of it that way, I really try!:)
Our kids are really good at traveling -- so, really besides the shoes it was a great drive --- and worth it too!
I could totally see myself in your response to Gavin's misplaced shoes...sorry for that Meg! Candice's idea is much better! Thanks for both last posts...so great to see Garrett so happy. Maybe we can do some hiking when he's here. I'll try to find some good rocks!
oh no, that is tooooo funny! That Gavin is so stinkin cute! LOVE that he borrowed the cell phone to place his order!
